31 Days of Smiles::Let’s Talk

I have written a few times here on the blog about Charlotte’s speech delay.

What I haven’t really written about are the details.  And honestly, they’re private details that I probably won’t share too much about here on P2P.

Charlotte started speech therapy a few weeks ago.  Her SLP is AMAZING.  And the best part, is once a week she comes to our home and plays with Charlotte.  CG adores her.  ADORES!

I’ve mentioned before that I am working toward my masters in early intervention, and will eventually (meaning very very soon after my last internship!) be working as a developmental therapist.  This basically means I will be doing what our SLP does, but as a play/development therapist as opposed to speech.

For me, this process with Charlotte is exciting because I’m learning too.

But I didn’t expect Charlotte to make immediate progress.  I thought she would be resistant, shy and closed off.

I was wrong.

Charlotte has made HUGE progress in only two weeks.  And maybe it’s because she is in school, turned 2, and is just more open to wanting to communicate.  But I think the speech therapy is helping too.

My sweet little girl tries SO HARD.  And with our SLP’s help is now adding new words to her language each week.

Words like “eat”, “thank you” and all of the animal sounds.

As a mom, I worry so much about my kids.  I worried that CG would never talk, and I (gulp) worried that the other kids were passing her by.  Yes, I compared her to other children.

But I know now that she is going to be just fine.  She’s going to talk on her own time, and she is sooo proud of herself every time she says a new word.

I’m proud of her too.  Beyond proud…

…No matter what :)
